An official statement said that gunmen fired on a patrol vehicle of the 116 Wing of the Gilgit-Baltistan Scouts from the mountainous side near Sher Nallah at around 9:35 pm on Sunday, September 27. Dailyindependent

The reviewed reports do not specify the number of attackers, the weapons they used, or whether the patrol returned fire. They also do not identify the injured personnel or describe their condition beyond the treatment they received.

Injured Taken to Bashidas and Chilas Hospitals

The three men were rushed to Bashidas FWO Hospital, where they received medical treatment before being referred to the Regional Headquarters (RHQ) Hospital in Chilas. Chief Minister Amjad Hussain instructed the Diamer authorities to ensure the best possible medical care for them. DawnDawn

Chief Minister Orders Investigation and Arrests

Chief Minister Amjad Hussain took notice of the attack and directed the police and other law enforcement agencies to act. He asked for an investigation report and ordered them to track down and arrest the attackers, planners and facilitators using all available resources. Dawn

He also directed the Inspector General of Gilgit-Baltistan Police to conduct an immediate, comprehensive and impartial investigation. Officials were told to use modern investigative techniques and intelligence information to identify the attackers. Daily TimesCapitalnewspoint

Security Tightened in Surrounding Areas

The chief minister ordered stronger security, surveillance and search operations in Bashidas, Sher Nallah and surrounding areas. Administration and security agencies were told to strengthen search and combing operations and keep a close watch on the movement of suspected individuals. DawnCapitalnewspoint

He said attacks on security personnel challenge state authority and would not be tolerated. He expressed resolve that the attackers would be brought to justice. DawnCapitalnewspoint

Who Is Responsible Remains Unknown

Authorities are investigating the circumstances of the firing and working to identify the attackers. Police and officials have described the assailants only as unidentified. No official statement reviewed names a suspect, a motive or an affiliation, and none reports an arrest. This article draws no conclusions on any of these points. Daily Times

Why the Karakoram Highway Matters

The Karakoram Highway is the main road link between Gilgit-Baltistan and the rest of Pakistan. It runs through Diamer district, including the Chilas area, and continues north toward the Khunjerab Pass on the border with China. Passenger buses, cargo vehicles and tourists use the route, along with residents travelling between the region’s districts and the rest of the country.

Because the highway carries so much traffic through a narrow mountain corridor, any attack on it draws immediate attention from authorities. It also leaves security forces with a long stretch of road to watch, which is why patrols and checkposts operate along the route.

Chilas has seen earlier attacks on security personnel. In August 2025, two GB Scouts personnel were killed and another injured when unidentified gunmen fired on a joint check post in Chilas’ Hudur area. In April 2026, an ambush on a police team returning from an anti-poppy operation near Chilas left at least three personnel dead and five wounded, according to Dawn. None of the reports reviewed link the latest shooting to either incident. The Express TribuneDawn
