Skardu, June 23 — Pakistan has reaffirmed its commitment to improving air navigation services at Skardu Airport as part of ongoing efforts to enhance aviation infrastructure and support tourism in Gilgit-Baltistan.

The move comes as passenger traffic to Skardu continues to grow, driven by increasing domestic tourism and the region’s rising popularity among international visitors. Authorities believe that modernizing air navigation systems will help improve flight safety, operational efficiency, and reliability, particularly during challenging weather conditions.

Skardu Airport serves as a key gateway to some of Pakistan’s most popular tourist destinations, including Skardu Valley, Deosai National Park, Shigar, Khaplu, and the Karakoram mountain range. Improved air navigation facilities are expected to support the growing number of travelers visiting the region each year.

Officials have stated that the planned upgrades will focus on strengthening navigation and communication systems to assist pilots and air traffic controllers. These improvements are aimed at reducing disruptions and ensuring smoother flight operations.

The aviation sector has identified Skardu as an important hub for northern Pakistan, with continued investment expected to strengthen regional connectivity and promote economic growth. Better air services could also benefit local businesses, hotels, tour operators, and transport providers that depend on tourism.

Residents and tourism stakeholders have welcomed the government’s renewed focus on airport development, expressing hope that improved facilities will encourage more visitors to explore Gilgit-Baltistan and contribute to the local economy.

With tourism playing an increasingly important role in the region, enhanced air navigation infrastructure at Skardu Airport is being viewed as a significant step toward improving accessibility and supporting long-term development in northern Pakistan.
