Broad Peak Avalanche: CM Amjad Hussain Orders Immediate Rescue Operation for Missing International Climbing Team
The Broad Peak avalanche rescue operation began after a 10-member international climbing team lost contact during its expedition. Chief Minister Amjad Hussain immediately ordered rescue teams to launch search efforts.
The Alpine Club of Pakistan and the Shigar District Administration reported the incident. Chief Minister Amjad Hussain immediately directed all departments to remain on high alert. He also ordered close coordination with the Pakistan Army to speed up the rescue operation.
Chief Minister Amjad Hussain stated that the international expedition, led by renowned mountaineer Nirmal “Nims” Purja, includes climbers from Hunza, including Sohail Sakhi, as well as mountaineers from Nepal, the United States, Oman, China, and several other countries. He directed all relevant agencies to utilize every available resource to ensure the safety of the climbers.
He further emphasized that despite adverse weather conditions, both aerial and ground rescue teams should remain on standby so that rescue operations can commence immediately once conditions permit.
Expressing deep concern over the incident, Chief Minister Amjad Hussain prayed for the safety and well-being of all the climbers and instructed the relevant authorities to keep him informed of every development in the rescue operation on a continuous basis. The Broad Peak avalanche rescue operation will continue until all climbers are located, officials said.
